Imports’ share of Ukrainian gas consumption decreased from 55% to 46% in 2014
In 2014, 46% of Ukraine’s natural gas needs were met by imported sources, compared to 55% in 2013. The reduction in imports was due to a drop in total gas consumption in Ukraine.
Natural gas production in Ukraine decreased by 1.0 billion cubic meters (bcm) to 20.5 bcm. This reduction was mostly due to the loss of output from Chernomorneftegaz following the occupation of Crimea in March 2014 (Ukraine recorded 1.7 bcm of gas production from Chernomorneftegaz in 2013 and 0.3 bcm in early 2014).
